How the G+ Community Rewards Talent

Byron has been seeing increased notoriety after zombifying +matthew rappaport not too long ago. Since then, he has been working many different creative angles to have people interact with him and, of course, to receive zombie versions of themselves.

I was lucky enough to get online precisely when Byron started a hangout and had a few moments to speak to him about how this attention and support from the community has affected him. Byron was genuinely appreciative and excited by the way he has been received by the G+ community. In his little town in Manitoba, the talent of turning people into zombies is apparently not appreciated (what’s up Manitoba?).

I think that Byron’s experience is a great example of a Google+ specific (and unique) quality. People are rewarded for sharing their talents by those in the G+ community. We’ve seen entire lists curated for photographers who are willing to share their work. People who have probably never been a “hit” on any social network are suddenly amassing large numbers of followers for doing something well, or maybe many things.

I featured +Johnathan Chung the other day. Before I posted about him and after I mentioned him, Johnathan’s talent for information curation and comparative analysis was recognized by several thousand members of the G+ community. These same people now follow and encourage Johnathan.

As G+ grows, there will be and already IS an enormous opportunity for you to showcase something you are good at: start a knitting group via Hangout, share your short stories, post a picture or video of you figuring out a quantum mechanics equation. If you put a small amount of effort into curating your Circles and surrounding yourself with people with similar interests, someone will see what you are doing and they’ll comment and share.

So, as I go forth to spread the infection (hmm, never thought I’d find myself saying that with such gusto), why not introduce your talents to the G+ community? If you want, let me know what you’re up to and I can point you in a helpful direction!
